This is one of the major causes of failure in small business, many people try and start businesses in areas where they have no interest or expertise. The main driver is that people want to make money and quite often don’t have the basic business skills or expertise to be successful at running their own business. The best way to start an online business as outlined in the above video is to identify what you are particularly good at, if you don’t know what that is ask your partner or a close friend and I am sure they will be able to share what your talent is. Always remember that we are all unique beings and there is no one other person exactly the same as us in the whole world.
Once you have identified your expertise you need to work out if there is a potential need in the market for the skills you have to offer and go out and provide that service better than anyone else in the market place. People that are just in business to make money almost always fail.
The good thing is that the market is massive there is a potential market for just about every conceivable product or service.
The next task is to identify how you can satisfy the market need with your product or service.
Another important aspect to consider is how you intend to build your market, at the beginning of building your business you should keep your options open to engaging with potential customers both on and off line. A good way to do this is to go out into your local area and meet people face to face and talk to potential customers and find out what they want.
Potential customers will like to be asked their opinion on what would meet their needs. You might also consider giving a giveaway as small thank you for people sharing their time with you.
This provides us with a great opportunity to engage with potential customers and creates the ability to streamline our business to suit customer needs. Some other advantages of turning our passion into business is that it is much more enjoyable working at something we love versus doing some job just to make money.
One of the biggest dilemma’s I have found is the multitude of different schemes that we are bombarded with promising to deliver a multitude of different benefits from thousands of twitter followers to mega amounts of traffic.
Its almost impossible to know who to trust. Most of the advice that I have received is that to be successful with online marketing we have to first create value for our customers and not expect any thing in return. This is about building a relationships and trust with our customers. I have been told that most people don’t like to be sold to, but they love to buy products and services from people they like. So we need to think what could we do to become rich and not try and duplicate the efforts of others.
I would like to know how you have turned your passion into a business could you please share with me your experience.
